What Makes The Perfect Satin Bed Sheet for All Type of Bed?

Most people naturally attribute good sleep to a comfortable mattress or pillows, but in actual fact, the bed sheets themselves can impact your quality of sleep just as much. Think about it. It is the bedsheet you actually lie directly on and move around on all night. The fit of the sheet on the mattress, ensuring it stays in place, is important but what about the fabric?

The variety of bed sheets available to us these days is enormous. So how does one choose which sheet is best? Most people will automatically select cotton bed sheets, as they are traditionally the most popular due to their durability, breathability, and ease of washing. Cotton is an excellent choice for a bed sheet in both the summer and winter because not only can it trap heat but it can also allow cool air to pass through it easily. There are more luxurious cottons, such as Egyptian cotton, which are traditionally softer to the touch and feel more luxurious. Linen is another option which is excellent in warmer climates, but requires more ironing and can therefore be harder to maintain. Some people prefer the silky feel of satin sheets, but remember they can be very warm and slippery. These are just a small sample of the fabrics available; there are also many blends, each with its own pros and cons.
Another factor to consider when buying bed sheets is the thread count. What does this mean? Essentially, this refers to the number of threads in a square inch of fabric. You may have heard that the higher the thread count, the softer the fabric (and also the more expensive the fabric!). Be careful not to take this too literally, as the quality of the fabric is so important. For example, a higher thread count of a lower quality cotton may not be as soft as a lower thread count of a higher quality cotton, such as Egyptian cotton. Thread counts can go up to 1000, but usually 250-500 is adequate for most household bedding.

Bed sheets come in various sizes, depending on the size of your bed. Standard sizes are normally single, double, queen, king, and super king. However, in the USA, there is not just one bed size; in fact, there are single long and single king beds too. The single long bed will require a specific single long sheet and is suitable for taller people, as it is 16cm longer. The single king bed is not only the same length as the single long bed, but also 14cm wider. As such, it is important to ensure that when buying fitted sheets for single beds, you are buying for the correct bed type, given the different measurements.

Bed sheets are widely available in stores and online. Some people prefer to see and touch the sheets before buying them, especially if they are after a more luxurious or softer feel. There is nothing worse than ordering a high thread count sheet online only to find that the quality is so poor that the thread count is almost meaningless! Hopefully, this guide will leave you better equipped to pick the best bed sheets for your home.
